Do I need a referral to see a Sports Physician?

Yes, in order to obtain your full medicare rebate, you will need a referral from your GP. Any information you can provide from your physiotherapist or other allied health professional is also useful.

I have a referral from my physio, do I still need one from my GP?

Yes, you will need a GP referral. Current Medicare legislation only permits referrals from a doctor.

I have a referral from my specialist, do I still need one from my GP?

You do not need a GP referral if you already have one from a medical specialist. Please do be aware that specialist referrals will last for 3 months only. GP referrals are valid for 12 months.

Will there be an out of pocket cost for my consultation?

In most cases, there will be an out of pocket cost.  If you would like to know the details of your charges, please discuss it with our reception team when making your appointment.

Do you see TAC and Workcover patients?

Yes, we do see Workcover and TAC patients, but we do not bill insurers directly for consultations or procedures. TAC and Workcover patients are required to settle their account in full at the time of consultation. You will be given financial information before your appointment is made. After your consultation, you will be issued with 2 copies of your receipts. One for you to keep and the other to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

Will you communicate with my GP/Physio/Chiropractor/Podiatrist etc?

With your permission, we will communicate with all practitioners involved in your care to ensure that any management plans are implemented consistently and with the best possible results.

What if I can’t attend my appointment?

Please give us 48 hours notice if this is the case. Except in the case of emergencies, last minute cancellations will incur a $30 fee.
