Congratulations to the Aus Opals for their recent Paris 2024 Bronze (rose gold!) medal.

Alice has been supporting them as their Olympic Team doctor at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and in the lead up preparation as well as with her work through the WNBL in the national league, where many of the players are based.
The Opals left Australia in July for a tournament in Spain, and combined with their teammates and head coach Sandy Brondello, currently based in the USA. They then played three pool matches in Lille; an initial loss to Nigeria while they found their feet, making two must win games vs Canada, then the home nation France in front of record crowd in Lille!
The Opals then moved to Paris, won a Quarter Final against Serbia, then lost their Semi Final to the USA. France were the eventual Silver medalists in the women’s draw after a one point loss to USA in the Gold medal game.
The Opals sisterhood is proud and as passionate as it was in their medal era. And, they are back!
Alice felt the absolute privilege of being part of the Opals 2024 campaign, and while it was busy, it was an intensely rewarding experience for the whole support team.
Alice now stays in Europe with the AusCycling para team as they prepare for the Paralympics at the end of August.
Well done to Alice and all of our amazing Aussie athletes competing in the Olympic & Paralympic games!
In January, Dr Andrius Ramonas participated in the Annual Two Bays Trail Run, spanning 28km across the Mornington Peninsula from Dromana to Cape Schanck. Dr Ramonas finished in the top 20, with an astounding time of 2 hours and 5 minutes! Greeting Andrius at the finish line was a friendly and familiar face, Dr Alice McNamara, who provided medical coverage for the event.
Well done to both Andrius & Alice for their efforts!

For this weeks ‘Practitioner watch’ we welcome back Dr James Ooi who has returned from QLD after providing medical coverage at the Gymnastics Australia National Clubs Carnival.

As pictured below, James had the privilege of chatting with two Olympians – Luc Longley & Ji Wallace-Baldwin!

James is always thrilled to be immersed in incredible gymnastics and looks forward next time!

For this month’s ‘Practitioner watch’ we say hello to Dr Alice McNamara who has recently returned from Saga, Japan, where she was the touring doctor with the Swimming Australia Dolphins before the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka.
The Dolphins incredibly topped the Gold medal table, making it their most successful ever World Championship meet, with 13 Golds, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, and 5 World Record Swims.
Alice got no swimming done, but was busy keeping the team healthy, strong and calm before the Fukuoka storm!

For this week’s ‘Practitioner watch’ we look back in our calendar to earlier this year, when Dr Chris Hasenkam toured with the Australian Women’s Cricket Team for their triumph at the T20 Womens World Cup, 2 years in a row!
Chris was honoured and grateful to have assisted this special group of athletes and support staff, who are setting the benchmark for women’s cricket across the world!
Well done to all involved!

For this week’s ‘practitioner watch’, we send our Congratulations to the Southside Flyers, who defeated Melbourne Boomers by ONE POINT in the 3rd and decider game for the WNBL Semi Final round. They now fly to Townsville to play at the GRAND FINAL game 1 on Saturday, before the second game of the Grand Final series at the State Basketball Centre, next Wednesday 22nd March.

We are proud to support them through their team doctor Dr Alice McNamara, and also Dr James Ooi, Dr Mehdi Ebrahimi and Dr Prasanna Gamage who have assisted this season!

Dr Alice McNamara attended the Australian Taekwondo World Championships Selections in Penrith 25-26th Feb 2023.
She was there with the VIS dietician Siobhan Crawshay, helping the VIS and CombatAus NPC athletes weigh-in, fight and gain selection. It was an insightful and successful weekend with 8 athletes selected for Worlds in Azerbaijan in May!
These athletes manage multiple pressures of making-weight, contact injuries and managing high training loads on very hypermobile joints!

Last month Dr James Ooi & Dr Alice McNamara provided medical coverage at the 2022 FINA World Swimming Championships.
Dr James Ooi reflects on his time at the event stating, “We were very lucky, not only for Melbourne to host the event, but also to bear witness to several record-breaking moments for the Green and Gold.”
Well done to all involved!
