With that win, the Boomers cap off a 9-game win streak and officially qualify for the World Cup!
Last month, Dr Alice McNamara was invited to speak on ‘The Long Munch – Nutrition for Runners, Cyclists and Triathletes’ podcast, with Sports Dieticians Steph Gaskell and Alan McCubbin.
“Medical doctor and Sports Medicine Registrar Alice McNamara is back on the podcast. We discuss what blood tests can tell an athlete and their support team, what tests are related to nutrition for runners, cyclists & triathletes, and if athletes should get regular bloods for screening, or only when there’s a suspected issue.”

On the 29th of September, Prasanna travelled to Ajman in the UAE with the Australian Men’s National Deaf Cricket Team to provide medical coverage during the T20I matches against South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. Great work, Prasanna!

We have also recently welcomed back Dr Omer Gozubuyuk who attended an International Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand. The main topic explored was ‘PRP applications’. Dr Omer has taken away key points from the symposium which will be used to enhance our clinical knowledge at MPSP.

On this week’s practitioner watch, we welcome back Dr James Ooi, who has recently returned from providing medical coverage at the Gymnastics Australia National Clubs Carnival. This marks his
ongoing involvement with Gymnastics Australia at club and elite level.

“I love gymnastics. It’s such an enthralling sport utilising every part of the body!”

Dr Ooi has a special interest in bodyweight sports and functional fitness; including: Gymnastics, Calisthenics, Rock Climbing, Martial Arts, CrossFit and more.
Two weeks ago, our practitioners finished off their working week by sharing their knowledge with some of our friends at Kieser Australia & The Peninsula Foot Clinic.
On Friday 09/09, Dr James Ooi had the pleasure of being the keynote speaker for Kieser Australia at Mornington’s inaugural community event, to an audience of physiotherapists and over 100 individuals with osteoarthritis. James spoke on a topic which he is extremely passionate about: Evidence-based Non-Operative Management of Knee Osteoarthritis.
On Saturday 10/9, Dr Leesa Huguenin, Dr Omer Gozubuyuk and Dr Bianca Scotney were invited to speak at the Peninsula Foot Clinic’s annual professional development day, presenting on posterior heel pain, interventions for foot and ankle pain and a case of very difficult plantar fasciitis.
Great work team!

Please be aware Medicare have now deleted all Telephone consultation item numbers.

Medicare will no longer pay a rebate on a Telephone consultation.

These were created as a temporary measure during COVID lockdown times.

Patients who are not able to attend our clinic are welcome to arrange a Telehealth appointment which needs to be conducted as a ‘video’ conference. We are happy to explain this process to you if you are interested in this option. Please note the cost is the same whether you attend in person or have a Telehealth appointment.

If you choose to have a Telephone review the usual appointment fees apply and there will be no Medicare rebate.

We understand this is frustrating, but it is dictated by Medicare rules.

M P Sports Physicians look forward to continuing to offer our usual high standard of service.

This week we welcomed back Dr Alice McNamara who returned from the 2022 Commonwealth Games after providing medical coverage for the Australian Swimming team. Alice worked alongside Dr Rachel Harris and a team of 3 physios and 3 soft tissue therapists who supported the athletes through the staging camp in Chartres, France, and their time at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The Dolphins won 65 medals! 25 Gold, 21 Silver, and 19 Bronze. Well done to all involved!
