Dr John Brooks

John is a UK trained Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician. He is currently an AFL team doctor for St. Kilda FC men’s team.
He has extensive experience in numerous professional sports and active populations, including AFL, rugby, rowing, soccer, basketball and the military. He manages musculoskeletal and sports medicine conditions in patients of all ages from children and adolescents to elite and recreational adults through to older individuals wanting to remain mobile and active.
As a former professional rugby player, John understands the needs of people wanting to be healthy and active, as well as the frustration of medical issues and injuries. He aims to provide a thorough assessment and optimal management.
He has a PhD in Sports Injuries, degrees in Exercise Physiology and Sports Science and has co-authored more than 40 peer reviewed Sports Medicine publications in sports including rugby, ballet and sailing. He has presented his work internationally at conferences and continues to teach Sport and Exercise Medicine to current and future Doctors and clinicians.

- Sporting injuries: optimising diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation back to activity and performance
- Chronic musculoskeletal issues: a thorough assessment and management of longer-term issues
- Paediatric and adolescent sports injuries, health and performance concerns
- Management of osteoarthritis and degenerative joints
- Ultrasound guided injection therapies for musculoskeletal conditions (including PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and cortisone injections)
- Contraception, sexual health and men’s health impacting on wellbeing and performance
